State the quantity and its unit
A description such as “one shipment” does not define the request. List packages or pallets, total weight and package dimensions separately. If goods arrive in several batches, give the quantity for each batch. Weight and volume are different measures; ask which unit the quotation uses.
Describe packaging and storage requirements
Describe packaging, unusual dimensions, vulnerable packages and any storage conditions specified by the cargo owner or manufacturer. These details help establish whether the goods can be accepted and what service is required. Discuss special needs before dispatch; the product name alone does not confirm suitability.
Define the storage period and release pattern
Give estimated arrival and departure dates and mention any possible extension. For partial releases, state the expected number of stages and quantity per stage. Ask the company to clarify when the charging period starts and ends and how schedule changes will be recorded.
Request related services as separate items
Separate storage, unloading on arrival, loading on release and transport coordination in your enquiry. State which tasks you need and which your own providers will perform. Ask what is included in the quoted amount so storage charges are not mistaken for the total operation cost.
Compare quotations with the same scope
Use the same cargo quantity, storage period, movement count and service list when comparing proposals. Compare charging units, included and excluded items and quotation validity. If the details change, send a revised enquiry for review; a price based on earlier conditions is not automatically valid for the revised request.
